Lodwar, 11th December 2024 (Governor’s Press Service) – Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai today met a delegation from BOMA International, led by CEO Sam Owilly, who paid him a visit at the County Government Headquarters in Lodwar.
Governor Lomorukai expressed his appreciation for BOMA’s work in addressing pressing issues such as poverty, hunger, gender inequality, and climate change.
He emphasized the county’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment for development partners and highlighted the development needs of Turkana County.
“Turkana’s development aspirations are immense and require our collective efforts. We particularly need to focus on supporting our pastoralist communities by investing in livestock development and harnessing their vast potential,” Governor Lomorukai said.
The Governor also highlighted the county’s efforts to promote peaceful coexistence among border communities, noting the positive outcomes of these initiatives.
BOMA CEO Sam Owilly outlined the organization’s mission to empower individuals in dryland regions through economic inclusion programs. He shared that BOMA has successfully empowered over 16,300 people, ending poverty and building sustainable livelihoods.
The BOMA delegation included International Board Chair Perry Boyle, Chief Program Officer Anna Mecagni, and other board members. The County Government was represented by Deputy County Secretary Joseph Nyang’a, County Executive for Education Wiljustus Lopeyok, Chief Officer Ezekiel Etelej (Medical Services), and Chief of Staff Peter Loyapan.
