The Deputy Governor Dr John Erus hosted representatives from Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) in a courtesy meeting to discuss the Young Africa Works in Kenya program at the Lodwar Vocational Training Centre.
The program aims to enhance skills development, strengthen value chains, and build technical capacities that are essential for economic growth.
DG Erus emphasized the significance of vocational training in the county, noting that vocational institutions have equipped individuals with essential skills.
“The Governor and I extend our gratitude for your continued support, which plays a vital role in advancing education and development programs in the county,” DG Erus said.
CICan’s Partnership Coordinator, Sylvia Ingati, highlighted the organization’s contributions to Lodwar VTC, including capacity building for trainers, provision of technical training equipment, and the launch of CBET programs in plumbing (Level 3 & 4) and electrical installation (Level 3 & 4).
Ingati also noted their efforts in gender mainstreaming, industry linkages, recognition of prior learning (RPL), marketing, and outreach—initiatives aimed at positioning Lodwar VTC as a leading technical institute in the county.
The Young Africa Works program in Lodwar is funded by the Mastercard Foundation and implemented by CICan.
The CICan team included Erick Kiyere, MEL Specialist, and Elizabeth Wambui, Communication Specialist.
The meeting was attended by Stephen Eregae (Director, TVET), Raphael Logum (Director Resource Mobilization and Partnerships Development), and Abraham Chegem ( Assistant Director, Lodwar VTC).
