Turkana County has officially begun preparations for Turkana’s debut at the East African Local Authorities Sports and Cultural Association (EALASCA) Games scheduled for February 2025 in Kampala, Uganda.
Turkana mens basketball team captained by William Mbotela qualified for this regional tournament after their impressive performance at the 11th edition of the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games.
Flying Kenya’s flag high, the men’s basketball team in Turkana, is aiming for victory at the tournament towards securing a place at high-level competitions.
Speaking during a meeting to kick off preparations, Chief Officer for Sports and Vocational Training, Leah Losiru, emphasized that Turkana is not just participating but aiming to win.
She assured that the county government is putting all necessary measures in place to support their success.
“Our victory at the KICOSCA Games was a statement of Turkana’s excellence and determination. Now, we’re preparing to carry that winning formula to the East African stage,” said Losiru.
During the win at the KICOSCA games, team captain William Mbotela said that dedication, self believe and love for Turkana hugely contributed to their exeptional performance.
“We hope to keep the spirit in the subsequent editions of KICOSCA and carry the same dedication to EALASCA,” the captain remarked.
The Directorate of Sports has in place a pre-event training and bonding program that aims to ensure the team is cohesive and fully prepared.
The EALASCA Games, established in 2008 to foster regional collaboration and unity, will bring together teams from East African countries to compete in various sports and cultural events.
