The Deputy Governor, Dr John Erus, hosted delegates from Ethiopia’s South Omo Zone for a courtesy meeting focused on strengthening peace along the Kenya-Ethiopia border.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Erus commended the Ethiopian delegation for their commitment to fostering peaceful co-xistence along the border.
“We must start by engaging local communities to understand their grievances and aspirations. The county government will mobilize resources for initiatives that promote development and address poverty and unemployment, which often contribute to conflicts.”
The former CS, John Kiyonga Munyes, emphasized the need for collaboration with non-profits specializing in peacebuilding.
“Partnering with NGOs will strengthen these initiatives and provide crucial support in peacebuilding efforts,” he noted.
The South Omo Zone Administrator Tadele Hatte underscored the importance of joint efforts between Kenya and Ethiopia.
“As leaders from both sides of the border, we must commit to uniting our communities. The security agencies from both sides should work together to enhance stability,” he added.
The meeting was attended by Moses Korea, Chief Officer, Office of the Governor, Raphael Logum, Director, Resource Mobilisation and Partnerships Development, officials from the Directorate of Peace and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) led by Michael Ewoi, MCA, Lapur Ward.
