The Turkana County Government and SNV Kenya (Netherlands Development Organization) have pledged to strengthen their collaboration to expand access to clean cooking energy across the county.
The partnership aims to improve household air quality and reduce reliance on unsustainable wood fuel.
Recent surveys on access to clean cooking energy places Turkana in the same category with other ASAL counties where firewood and charcoal is utilized by more 85% of the population.
Speaking during a meeting with SNV Kenya officials, Chief Officer for Energy, Mining and Petroleum, Triza Amoni, stated that the initiative would contribute to restoring land and vegetation cover degraded due to firewood and charcoal production.
Amoni reaffirmed the county’s commitment to supporting SNV’s market-led approach that avails clean energy appliances for public purchase.
SNV’s team lead, Dennis Kibira, noted that their organization had deployed a team of sales representatives across the county to boost adoption.
He added that SNV was keen on participating in county events to showcase its products and raise public awareness about clean energy solutions.
In attendance were Jackson Lojore(Director for Energy and Petroleum Production) and SNV officials.
