The Kangura borehole in Kalobeyei ward is now officially under the management of the Kakuma Lopur and Letea Water and Sanitation Company (KALWASCO) following its handover by the Kenya Red Cross and UN-Habitat
The borehole serves hundreds of residents of Natukobenyo and Kangura villages through a pipeline network and three water kiosks at Natukobenyo village, also supplys water to Kangura Early Childhood Development (ECD) center.
Speaking during the handover, KALWASCO Managing Director Zachariah Etukon stated that the transfer aligns with the new legal framework that mandates water companies to oversee water installations and supplies within their jurisdictions.
He divulged that KALWASCO had made arrangements to ensure uninterrupted service by working collaboratively with the Kalobeyei Water Users Association, which will act as an agent of the company in ensuring supplies of clean and safe water.
Additionally, he assured residents that water from the borehole would continue to support domestic use while also contributing to greenhouse farming in the area.
The handover was witnessed by Kalobeyei Ward Administrator, Kalobeyei ward Manager, Turkana West ACC1 and ACC2, Emmanuel Echapan, Turkana West sub county water officer and members of the public.
This development comes at a time when the two other water companies in Turkana Turkana Urban and Turkana Rural have embarked on the process of acquiring schemes and water facilities within their jurisdictions.
