Third edition of conflict sensitivity training for peace actors and Public Servant in Turkana has been successfully concluded.
The training, supported by DRC, aimed at refreshing the skills of previous participants and equipping new entrants with tools for conflict-sensitive programming.
Speaking during the training, Ward Administrator for Kanamkemer Mr Patrick Nacho, lauded the DRC for its proactive approach in enhancing the capacity of Peace Actors and public servant.
Joshua Eregae, a peace building officer, advocated for the inclusion of political and leadership figures in future training sessions, noting that their words and actions often have a significant impact on peace.
According to Raphael Locham, the participants were exposed to the application of conflicts sensitivity measure when handling both inter and intra -ethic conflicts with the aim of resolving them
Additionally, He. insisted that peace Actor’s and public servant would have better results by adopting the conflict sensitivity programming that Integrates the Do No Harm approach.
Locham added that the approach was not only actor focussed but also sensitive to the global requirements for inclusivity, evidence based planning and networking between partners.
He also highlighted the growing demand for accountability from project beneficiaries, stressing the importance of adopting conflict-free strategies in all peace-related activities.
John Ekutan, of the DRC, said that the training focussed on interventions for de-escalating conflict.
The DRC Peace building officer, also rooted for the conflict sensitive approach as a true reflection of reality of our lives where conflicts are unavoidable.
Participants of the training included representatives from various civil society organizations, all of whom are now better equipped to handle the complex challenges of peace building in Turkana.
Other county officials and representatives of stakeholders who attended and addressed the consultative meeting include, Lomongin, Geoffrey (ass.director for peace).
Other partners who benefited from training were drawn from Institute of Pastoralism Development and Research (IPDR), National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD), Turkana Agency for Resilience and Economic Development (TARED)Dan Church Aid (DCA), Angaza Talent Network (ATN), among others.
