KENYA BANKERS SACCO EXPANDS FINANCIAL SERVICES TO GRASSROOTS COMMUNITIES

More than 100 residents and business owners in Kalobeyei have opened savings and credit accounts to benefit from Kenya Bankers SACCO’s financial services in Turkana West.

The SACCO has integrated its services into the ongoing Gava Mashinani initiative, a government-backed program aimed at decentralizing essential services to grassroots communities. This partnership seeks to provide accessible and sustainable financial solutions that foster growth and development in underserved areas.

Hannah Njoroge, the Kenya Bankers SACCO Kakuma Manager, stated that Gava Mashinani has provided an effective platform for financial literacy and community sensitization.

“We are ensuring that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and residents can conveniently address their key financial needs locally, without long travel or delays,” Njoroge said.

She emphasized that the SACCO aims to empower businesses, particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), to enhance financial inclusion and expand income-generation opportunities.

“We offer a range of services, including savings accounts, conventional loan products, and Islamic finance products,” she added.

Mathew Lokadae, a local entrepreneur, expressed optimism about his business’s future after opening a savings and credit account.

“We didn’t know how to save or access funds for our struggling businesses. With these services, we can now restock our products and save for future emergencies,” Lokadae said.

By integrating financial services into Gava Mashinani, Kenya Bankers SACCO is bridging the financial gap and supporting economic resilience in grassroots communities.
