Lodwar, 5th May 2024 – Public Communication and Media Relations

The Turkana County Government held a consultative meeting with the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) to discuss Tullow Oil sites’ Field Development Plans, which are essential for environmental safety and regulatory compliance.

The meeting, attended by officials from the Department of Energy and Petroleum, focused on collaboration in the disclosure of Field Development Plans (FDPs) of Tullow oil sites such as decommissioning strategies and land compensation frameworks.

Deputy Governor, Dr John Erus, reaffirmed the County’s commitment to ensuring local communities benefit from oil resources while maintaining strict environmental standards.

“Concerning long-term national projects, the Governor and I assure you of our full support. We appreciate EPRA’s continued partnership in Turkana County,” said Dr Erus.

County Executive Committee Member for Tourism, Leah Audan Lokaala, noted that Kenya is developing a content bill aimed at increasing local participation in the oil and gas sector—an initiative highly relevant to Turkana.

She emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability in managing oil resources.

An EPRA representative, Peter Kipkorir, also highlighted the need for robust collaboration in the energy sector to enhance access and efficiency.

The agency’s role is vital in integrating diverse energy sources and technologies to support community development and national goals.

Other county officials in attendance included Director of Energy and Petroleum Jackson Lojore, Deputy Director Geoffrey Eregae, and EPRA representatives.
