The County Government has taken a proactive step to address concerns arising from illegal mining activities in Kainuk, Naduat, and Suguta areas.
In a stakeholder meeting convened to tackle environmental and community issues linked to mining operations, Deputy Governor Dr John Erus emphasized the importance of public participation.
“We must focus on public participation, land rights, environmental protection, and ensuring that local communities benefit from mining activities,” he said.
County Executive Committee Member for Tourism, Culture, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Leah Audan Lokaala, stated that the county would implement a vetting process for all investors to prevent unlicensed operations.
“No mining should proceed without community consent,” she said.
County Attorney Ruth Emanikor highlighted the sector’s potential for economic development, urging compliance with national and county regulations.
“Adherence to the law ensures investments benefit the local communities and allows us to evaluate their economic contributions effectively,” she said.
The county government reaffirmed its commitment to responsible mining practices that prioritize environmental sustainability and community welfare.
Other officials present included Deputy County Secretary Dr Albert Gamoe, Chief Officer for Mining and Petroleum Triza Amoni, Chief Officer for Lands Robert Loyelei and directors, and ward administrators from Kainuk, Suguta, and Naduat.
