Kalokol Health Facility benefits with new generator for steady power supply

Lodwar – May 6, 2025 (Public Communications and Media Relations)

The Department for Health and Sanitation has delivered a silent 15 kVA, air-cooled diesel-powered generator capable of generating 230-400 voltage to power the Kalokol Health Facility, ensuring steady power supply and improved service delivery.

The generator will support lighting, refrigeration for vaccine storage, blood products, medicines, and medical equipment. This also includes Oxygen concentrators and communication devices such as computers and electronic-Community Health Information System devices.

Another 15kVA generator was dispatched to Elelea Sub-County Hospital in February with another scheduled for dispatch to Kaikor Sub-County Hospital soon.

Director for Health Products and Technologies, Dr David Moru mentioned that the generators require routine servicing through secure County Government funds for repair and maintenance of the other generators.

“One generator has been dispatched to Kalokol health facility to address challenges of limited power supply. The new generator is an improved version to the old one, which had limited power,” he said.

The County Biomedical Services Coordinator Junet Elaar highlighted the significance of the generator, saying that it will address instant power outages that disrupt services such as maternal deliveries and emergencies. She also mentioned this will reduce spoilage of vaccines and medicine in the facility.

“This is a game changer since facilities will be able to manage emergency services at their level ensuring a reliable cold chain system, improved infection control, and deliver consistent diagnostic services,” she said.

This is an indication to County Government efforts to ensuring that the remote areas have access to unlimited power supply and ultimately lead to better maternal and neonatal outcomes, reduced referrals, accurate diagnosis, and reduced medical wastage.

The facility health workers, community health workers, and warehouse officials were also present.
