The Turkana County FLOCCA projects implementation team is calling on contractors awarded projects under the program to speed up or risk termination of the awards.
At a meeting to assess to the status of projects and ascertain the completion rates, the team raised concerns that some projects were yet to kick off despite being awarded on time. The members of Multi-stakeholder forum resolved to terminate underperforming contracts and re-award them to capable contractors.
Director of Climate Change, George Emase, said the team would consider terminating contracts awarded to firms that had failed to meet project timelines.
“We are keen that contractors adhere to project timelines to ensure projects are completed in good time,” said Emase.
He further emphasized that for water-related projects, quality water tests should be conducted before boreholes are handed over for public use. “Water quality analysis should be a priority to ensure the water is safe for domestic consumption,” he said.
Key issues discussed during the meeting included project implementation status, local investment and strategies to improve climate resilience in areas such as water management and agriculture.
Those present included Agriculture Director Aaron Nanok, Senior Climate Change Officer Ekadeli Erot, and Sub-county Water Officer Eregae Judy, among others.
