The Livestock Development Department through the County Veterinary Services, intends to rally partner support in constructing a veterinary clinic that will boost the Directorate in preventive care and providing sick-animal services in Turkana.
Speaking to livestock surgeons involved in vaccination, deworming, spaying and castration of dogs and cats, the County Chief Officer for Veterinary Services, Dr Ezekiel Etelej said that he is reaching out to Kenya Women Veterinary Association (KWVA) and other partners to consider supporting the construction of a veterinary clinic that will provide medical care for animals, encompassing both preventive and sick-animal services.
The clinic, Chief Etelej said, will help in diagnosing and treating illness and injuries, perform surgeries and offer preventive care such as vaccinations and routine check-ups.
He said this on second day of the fourth edition of free rabies mass vaccination and donkey welfare treatment campaign, where 40 dogs and one cat were vaccinated. out of the 40, 18 dogs have been castrated and one spayed. Additionally, over 100 donkeys were dewormed and treated in Kapua village, Kalokol Ward.
The CCO observed the current facility where surgical operation is done is not spacious and conducive for the operations.
He also visited the County Veterinary Laboratory and later took the opportunity to assess the progress of the campaign while interacting with the teams in registration, surgical and recovery areas.
The campaign still runs up to Thursday 19th June, 2025.
The CCO was accompanied by Dr Erenius Nakadio (Deputy Director, Veterinary Services) and Ewar Narogoi (Assistant Director, Administration).
