Over 200 learners at St. Michael Kawalase Comprehensive School received dignity kits, stationery, and mentorship during the closing ceremony of the “Kick Rabies and Hydatidosis Out of Turkana” campaign.
The initiative, led by the County Government’s Veterinary Services Department in partnership with the Kenya Women Veterinary Association, Agency for Pastoralist Development, Brooke East Africa, and Ultravetis East Africa, provided essential supplies including nine boxes of sanitary ware containing 24 packs each, 15 liters of juice, 200 exercise books, 200 pens, and six cartons totaling 200 pieces of biscuits.
Chief Officer for Livestock Development Dr. Ezekiel Etelej commended the partners for their support and reaffirmed the county’s commitment to strengthening the livestock sector as an economic pillar for pastoralists.
During the three-day campaign, veterinary teams vaccinated 185 dogs and cats against rabies while providing treatment for 100 donkeys, including performing 48 castrations and 13 spaying procedures in Lodwar.
These efforts built upon last year’s achievements of 225 vaccinations and 66 surgeries conducted in Kakuma and Kalokol.
Dr. Etelej joined KWVA Vice Chair Dr. Gertrude Shepelo, a University of Nairobi lecturer, in encouraging students to pursue academic excellence.
Dr. Shepelo pledged scholarship support for future university applicants from the school and confirmed her association’s participation in next year’s vaccination campaign, noting they were exploring additional areas of collaboration to strengthen their partnership with the county.
The event concluded with a tree-planting activity led by the Livestock Department.
Among the attendees were Dr. Erenius Nakadio, Deputy Director of Veterinary Services; Dr. Anne Ndeke from KWVA; Dr. Agui Sammy representing APaD; and school administrators led by Deputy Head Teacher Sabina Nakadio.
