The Department of Climate Change has conducted a field inspection in Lopur Ward, Turkana West Sub- County to assess the near completion of a key water project aimed at enhancing access to clean and safe water.

The initiative, which includes a borehole, elevated storage tank, and multiple water distribution points, is part of the county’s broader climate adaptation strategy.

Once operational, the facility is expected to serve over 3,000 households, significantly improving access to domestic water and livestock watering.

Speaking during the visit, Senior Accountant Brian Lokeun highlighted the project’s impact on public health and community resilience.

“This is more than a water project, it’s about enhancing quality of life and strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities affected by the harsh impacts of climate change,” he said.

Residents expressed gratitude, noting the project’s potential to transform lives, especially for women and children who often walk long distances in search of water.

The department also held consultations with local leaders and stakeholders to develop sustainability measures, including community-led management and routine maintenance plans to ensure long-term functionality.

In attendance were officials from the Department of Climate Change, the Lopur Ward Administrator, the County Water Engineer, and other local stakeholders.
