Lokichoggio, 24th July 2025 (Governor’s Press Service)

Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has reaffirmed his commitment to the rights and welfare of minority communities while meeting with minority groups in Lokichoggio Town.

The Governor emphasized that Turkana is a land of equal opportunities and that no resident should face discrimination in the delivery of public services.

“We must prioritize all communities that have called Turkana home for decades,” he said. “This county belongs to all of us, and our governance processes must reflect that reality. Equity is our guiding principle.”

He outlined a raft of measures aimed at improving the livelihoods of minority groups, including the expansion of bursary and scholarship programs, fair representation in employment, and equal consideration in land subdivision rights. These steps, he said, are designed to ensure that no group is left behind in his quest to develop Turkana County.

The Governor also highlighted the need for financial inclusion, noting that Lokichoggio still lacks a banking institution. He called on financial partners to consider establishing a presence in the area to support local businesses and residents.

On matters of economic empowerment, Governor Lomorukai promised capital support and policies targeting small-scale traders.

Deputy Governor Dr. John Erus asked them to strengthen their grassroots representation so as to enhance their bargaining power.

Women Representative Cecilia Ishuu pledged more support for minority women groups, noting the critical role they play in the local economy.

Lands County Executive Faith Aletia promised to look at the issue of irregular land acquisition in the Sub-County.

Lokichoggio MCA Vincent Ekipor said that he has a very healthy working relationship with local minority communities.

Special Elect Muna Abdi thanked the community for investing in the area and supporting the county administration.

Miners lauded the peace dividend enjoyed at their sites, expressing gratitude to the Governor for his efforts to restore calm along the international borders.

Senior County Government officials present were County Executives Leah Audan ( Education), Patrick Losike (Public Service) and Willyjustus Lopeyok (Water).
