Lodwar – 30th July, 2025

Turkana Education Board, convened a meeting with principals and representatives from various colleges to streamline bursary disbursement for Turkana County students.

The meeting, a follow-up to the Board’s recent institutional visits, aimed to interrogate findings, identify systemic gaps, and develop effective strategies for transparent and equitable bursary allocation.

CECM Education Leah Audan stressed the importance of credibility and record integrity in bursary management.

“Bursary funds are limited, and must be managed with transparency, supported by accurate and up-to-date records to ensure the most deserving students benefit,” she said.

CCO for ECDE and Social Protection, Paul Lodunga, echoed the need for proper documentation and encouraged institutions to raise concerns directly with the Board.

“The Board will prioritize students with verified admissions and urges institutions to provide acknowledgment letters and reports as part of the bursary accountability framework.” He stated.

Turkana Education Board Chair, Rev. Joseph Elibach, commended institutions for their role in supporting students and encouraged them to enhance their efforts by ensuring all eligible students are accurately captured in bursary lists.

In a plenary session, institutional representatives shared key challenges and called for improved coordination and communication to ensure smooth bursary distribution.

Turkana Bursary Fund Administrator, CPA Livingstone Eyanae, urged principals to uphold strong financial reporting standards, noting that these reports will directly inform future disbursements.

Also in attendance was TUCUSA Secretary General Brighton Edung, who presented pressing concerns affecting Turkana students that require county level interventions.
