The County Government has pledged its support for the upcoming Market-Based Energy Access (MBEA) conference, a knowledge-sharing forum that will highlight solutions to energy access challenges in humanitarian settings in Kakuma and Kalobeyei settlements.
Chief Officer for Energy and Petroleum, Triza Amoni, announced the commitment after meeting with officials from SNV Kenya, one of the organizers of the forum.
She noted that the county welcomes partnerships aimed at expanding clean energy access, describing the conference as a key step in raising awareness on the benefits of adopting clean energy solutions for cooking and household use in Turkana.
“This move will help us reach the underserved populations in the refugee camps and Kalobeyei settlement to demonstrate what is possible through market-based approaches,” Amoni said.
SNV Turkana Office Manager, Shadrack Kiprono, explained that the forum seeks to bring together sector stakeholders—including energy consumers— to exchange ideas, share success stories, and discuss challenges in the sector.
“Our goal is to provide a platform for knowledge exchange, showcase practical solutions, and sensitize the public on their applicability. We will also explore sustainable energy access models during the forum,” Kiprono said.
The conference is expected to take place in the coming weeks in Kakuma, drawing participation from governments, development partners, and residents.
Director of Energy and Petroleum, Jackson Lojore, was in attendance.
