In a bid to provide an amicable solution to land disputes in Turkana, the County Government has pledged to continue its investigation into an emerging case in Kangatotha Ward, where the community has reported a land grabbing incident.

Speaking to members of the Eliye community and the area Member of County Assembly, Mathew Alany, the County Executive for Lands, Physical Planning, and Urban Areas Management said that the case would be determined once the relevant information and ownership claims had been fully verified by the office.

“Following receipt of the complaint from this team led by the area MCA, we will investigate the matter and take the necessary action,” CEC Aletea said.

The CEC also pledged to take action against any officer found to have engaged in fraudulent dealings leading to the illegal transfer of the land and alienation of the rightful owners.

Adding that the County had already instituted a unit to handle such complaints at the community level through the Alternative Justice Systems (AJS) mechanism, CEC Aletea called on communities to make use of the AJS facilities for settling land disputes.

Through their MCA, Mathew Alany, the residents called for a speedy conclusion to the investigations, claiming that their ownership rights had been infringed.

AJS Chair Sheikh Yusuf Aremon, Deputy Director for Survey Gedion Malala, and Turkana Central Lands Administrator Dorcas Asirite were present.
