The longstanding water shortage in Korinyang and Kalemngorok villages of Katilu Ward is set to ease following the handover of a site for borehole drilling under the year 2025-2026 Drought Resilience Program in Northern Kenya (DRPNK).
The project will be implemented by the Department of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.
Chief Officer for Agriculture and Land Reclamation, David Maraka said the borehole is designed to supply up to 90,000 litres of clean water every hour, thereby improving access for local residents.
“Four months is the time set for the completion of this project. As a department, we are committed to building resilience against drought by availing water,” Maraka said.
Local leaders welcomed the initiative, noting that this would be a great relief for the community. Aroo Sub-county Administrator Alfred Lomodei said residents often walked long distances in search of water, exposing them to numerous challenges.
As part of the handover process, a Project Management Committee (PMC) made up of community members was constituted to oversee the execution of the works.
Present at the event were Project Engineer Kibet Chepkwony and Assistant Director of Administration Lennon Benard.
