Lokichoggio Sub-County residents have received free reproductive health services through Primary Care Network-Multi Disciplinary Team (PCN-MDT) Outreach model.
The targeted communities from Lomidat, Teremkus and Aposta also had access to ante-natal care profiling, urinalysis, blood group test, ultrasound screening, and malaria treatment. The outreach also provided Social Health Authority registration services.
The PCN-MDT outreach intervention implemented by the County Government in collaboration with Amref Health Africa, aims to enhance community health by bringing services closer to the people, promote Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and address health disparities in rural and remote areas.
The Deputy Director Family Health Gabriel Lopodo pointed out that this approach strengthens access to medical services, improves the quality of care, enhances community awareness on health services, and fosters better resource allocation, ensuring that comprehensive heath services reach hard-to-reach populations.
“Through this approach, women are able to know when to deliver, where to deliver, the gender of the fetus. The health-workers are able to detect pregnancy-related issues, enabling timely prevention and measures to be taken,” he said.
The Director Community Health Services Dr Joseph Lolepo added that through the PCN outreach coordinated approach, healthcare workers were enabled to identify community health needs, the delivery of preventive and promotive care and streamline referrals for complicated cases.
“Our goal as a county government is to strengthen the connection between community members and primary healthcare facilities, making it easier for people to access needed health services,” he mentioned.
He added that the through coordinating efforts and sharing of resources, PCNs have effectively addressed health disparities and align towards the goal of UHC by ensuring the whole Turkana population gets necessary patient care.
Sub-county Health Promotion Officer Lokichoggio, Trizza Nanok said health education is vital for expectant mothers and other residents in order to encourage them to seek health services and reduce barriers to access. “We have held consultative health talks regarding hygiene and proper feeding during pregnancy,,”
Nurse-in-charge Lomidat Health Facility Rebecca Mugo called for increased investment on PCN outreach interventions to ensure sustainable support and continuity of reproductive services, and enhance wide coverage of ANC profiling.
Jennifer Lorisae, a Community Health Promoter shared the community was also sensitised on the importance of seeking medical services in order to receive timely diagnostic services through ultrasound.
The activity was carried out by a multi-disciplinary team from County Government, Amref Health Africa, Lopididng Sub-county Hospital, Lomidat, Teremkus and Aposta health facilities.
