Kalobeyei, October 8 (Public Communication and Media Relations)
Engineers from the Turkana County Department of Roads have inspected three road sections in Kalobeyei Ward, Turkana West Sub-County, following the completion of upgrade and maintenance works.
The three roads total to 61 kilometres, includes 15-kilometre Lomunyenkirion–Kopeto, 23-kilometre Kalobeyei–Lonyoduk, and 23-kilometre Engangame–Kangateiberu roads.
Inspection lead, Engineer Moru Kataboi expressed satisfaction with the quality of work, noting that contractors had adhered to the specifications outlined in the project scope.
“We have checked the road surface and drainage installations designed to prevent soil erosion, and our verdict is that the work has been well executed,” he said.
The three road streches link rural villages to host and refugee settlement areas in Kalobeyei, improving access to markets, health facilities, and other essential services.
Engineer Kataboi noted that the projects were implemented under the 2024/2025 County Budget as part of ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity and service delivery in Turkana West in line with the Governor’s agenda to transform Turkana.
Local resident Elizabeth Akalale said the improved roads had already begun transforming daily life.
“Since the rehabilitation, we’ve seen medical outreaches and government services outreaches to these areas. People used to avoid this place because of poor road conditions — now they come often,” she said.
