The County Executive for Health and Sanitation, Dr Epem Joseph Esekon today hosted a delegation from the Digital Health Agency and Amref Health Africa to discuss the Taifa Care Digital System rollout and training for Sub-County Management team and healthcare workers.
Taifa Care is Kenya’s new national health digital platform designed to ensure equitable, accessible, and affordable healthcare for all citizens by leveraging technology to streamline healthcare access and administration.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr Epem emphasized the need to modernize patients’ data management, improve service delivery, and ensure equitable access to healthcare.
“This innovation will enhance care coordination, improve efficiency, and increase transparency in both service delivery and fund management,” he said.
Chief Officer for Medical Services, Dr Gilchrist Lokoel explained that the comprehensive integrated health information system enables real-time data sharing between hospitals and county governments, improving decision-making and accountability across the health sector.
“We are ensuring that every health facility and health worker is traceable, compliant, and accountable,” Chief affirmed.
Director for Policy , Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Lobokan James highlighted that the Taifa Care digital platform integrates electronic medical records, mobile enrolment, SHA claims processing, and real-time payments into a unified system.
He also added that the deployment of artificial intelligence and advanced analytics has helped the Social Health Authority (SHA) scrutinize claims and protect resources meant for genuine patients.
To support the full digitization process, 450 tablets and 450 power banks were launched today at the Department HQ.
