DG Erus allays fear of Mary’s Meals exit from Turkana

Lodwar- October 22, 2025 (Public Communication and Media Relations)

The Deputy Governor Dr John Erus has moved to dispel information that Mary’s Meals, a long-standing partner in Turkana’s ECD centres feeding program- is withdrawing from Turkana.

Dr Erus explained that the County had not received communication from the organization concerning the exit, terming the circulating information as ‘mere rumours’.

“The County is yet to receive any formal communication from Mary’s Meals regarding their exit. We are only seeing rumours on online communication platforms. We therefore urge the general public to use social media responsibly,” Dr Erus said.

The general public and a section of leaders recently raised their concerns, seeking clarification.

“We feel obligated to respond publicly and re-assure parents, teachers, and the community that school feeding program remains intact. The County is still collaborating with Mary’s Meals to ensure that the nutrition and learning needs of the young children are provided accordingly,” DG Erus explained.

The Deputy Governor urged the public to rely on verified information from official sources and not to fall prey to misinformation that could undermine confidence in the ongoing ECD support program in the county.

Through the partnership, County and Mary’s Meals support thousands of young children enrolled as learners in various ECD centres within the county with a daily serving of fortified porridge as part of school feeding program.
