The County Government of Turkana has completed routine maintenance works on the 7-kilometre road connecting Lomunyenpus villages to Kakuma Town in Kakuma Ward, Turkana West Sub-county.

The project, implemented by the Department of Roads and Public Works, is part of the 2024/2025 programme to open up rural villages and strengthen connectivity to major commercial centres across the county.

During an inspection tour, Engineer Jacob Kataboi confirmed that the contractor had adhered to all technical standards and delivered a high-quality road.

“We are now certain that the villages along this seven-kilometre stretch are better connected to opportunities for transport and trade,” he said.

The inspection team declared the road ready for public use and officially handed it over to the community.

Speaking on behalf of local residents, Esinyen Ebei welcomed the completion of the project, noting that the road had been impassable for many years.

“This road had been invaded by prosopis. In fact, it had turned into a huge bush. Today it is a usable road that accommodates vehicles, motorcycles and pedestrians,” he said.

A representative from the area MCA’s office Nicholas Emoni described the road as a major boost for the community, adding that it would ease movement and improve access to essential services.

“We are happy that we now have a road to facilitate supplies and access to health facilities, schools and trading centres,” he said.
