County, Plan International and Apad train climate change officers on High-Quality carbon projects

Thursday, 11th, December (Public Communication/Public Relations).

The County Government, through the Department of Climate Change, in partnership with APaD and Plan International, has trained 20 climate change officers on high quality carbon projects.

The training aimed to build capacity to design, certify, and implement such projects across the County.

In the three-day period, the trainees were exposed to practical skills in Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV), project eligibility checking, certification standards, and the development of community driven initiatives.

These areas of expertise are crucial as the county continues to align its climate action efforts with its long-term climate priorities and the County Climate Change Fund (CCCF).

Speaking during the opening session, Deputy Director Thomas Kiyonga emphasized the importance of building strong internal capacity to unlock the county’s potential in the carbon market. He noted that empowering county officers with advanced technical skills will enable them to design credible projects that deliver significant climate gains and improve community livelihoods.

Facilitators highlighted the growing opportunities within the carbon market and underscored the need for counties to be well, prepared with the right knowledge and tools. Strengthening the technical ability of staff ensures that future carbon projects meet global standards while benefiting local communities.

This partnership demonstrates a strong commitment to supporting counties in accessing climate finance, enhancing resilience, and promoting sustainable development.

The County Government remains dedicated to empowering its workforce and advancing community led climate solutions that foster a greener, more sustainable, and economically secure future for all residents.
