Tobong’u Lore starts off with inter-denominational prayers

The 9th Edition of Tobong’u Lore event has officially commenced today with interdenominational prayers at Ekalees Centre, marking the beginning of a vibrant week celebrating Turkana’s rich culture, tourism and heritage themed; Cradle of Humanity; Home of Culture, A Journey through Turkana.

The key highlight of the event will be tomorrow’s grand opening, expected to be led by the President, His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto.‎‎

The opening ceremony, which brought together visitors from across the country, was led by religious leaders from different churches in Turkana, along with Muslim representatives, reflecting the inclusive nature of the event.‎‎

The religious leaders united in prayers, calling for peace, harmony, and blessings for the people of Turkana County and the success of the cultural event.‎‎

Speaking during the prayers, Bishop. James Louren, also the Chairperson of Lodwar pastors Fellowship, emphasized the importance of cultural events as a moment of reflection and celebration of the Turkana identity.‎‎

“This is a time to celebrate our heritage, but also to come together as one people.

We pray for peace in our region and that this festival will bring joy as prosperity to our community,”

Bishop Louren said.‎‎Bishop.James Louren also called for unity among countries bordering Turkana County and the importance of unity and love for Ateker cluster communities.‎‎

Sheikh Elvis Mohammed of Jamia Mosque, representing the Muslim community, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the significance of interfaith collaboration in building a peaceful society.‎‎

“Today we stand together, regardless of our religious difference, to ask for blessing and unity from Allah.” Sheikh Elvis Mohammed stated.‎‎

The Tobong’u lore festival, now in it’s 9th edition, has grown from a local to a major international cultural and tourism event, showcasing traditional Turkana dances, music, traditional foods, and craft.‎‎

The cultural festival is expected to attract thousands of visitors across the world, boosting tourism and the local economy.‎‎

As the prayers concluded, the Turkana people are looking forward to the upcoming activities, including cultural exhibition, cultural dances, and music.

It is expected that the Miss Tourism Turkana will close today’s schedule later in the evening.
