Kakuma – February 25, 2026 (Public Communication and Media Relations)
Residents of Turkana West Sub-County have urged the County Government to prioritize the expansion of irrigation and water infrastructure in the upcoming FY 2026/2027 budget.
During the public participation exercise for the County Fiscal Strategy Paper (CFSP) held in Kakuma, the community identified the drilling of new boreholes, solarization and equipping of existing boreholes, and the construction of water kiosks as their top priorities.
Residents also called for increased investment in irrigation to support farms in Mana na Naruwa, Lopur Ward, to sustain both the host community and refugees.
“We are here to ensure that the 2026/2027 budget reflects your immediate needs. By aligning these priorities with our revenue projections, we can build a sustainable plan,” stated Director for Budget, Nicholas Mayo.
The forum brought together representatives from Kakuma, Lopur, Letea, Kalobeyei, and Nakalale wards, including village units, youth and women’s groups, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and Turkana West professionals.
Sub-county officials present included Deputy Sub-County Administrator Zacharia Etukon and Ward Administrators Nasipo Mark (Kalobeyei), Ignatius Erupe (Kakuma), Amos Esilan (Nakalale), and Moses Itom (Letea).
County staff in attendance included Senior Economists Vincent Achilla Ekutan and Jane Gundo Malala.
