The County Government, in partnership with ERDO and the PAG Church, has today launched a fully equipped theatre at Namoruputh Health Centre in Lokiriama Sub-County, marking a significant milestone in improving access to surgical services for residents.

The theatre was officially launched by Dr. Kidalio Ekiru, County Medical Director alongside Rev. Murray Cornelius, and Rev. Peter Nadir, the PAG District Overseer for Turkana Central.

Dr. Kidalio reaffirmed the Department of Health and Sanitation’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery across all sub-counties.

“Our objective remains to provide primary healthcare services in all the 11 sub-counties, and one way is through the establishment of fully functional surgical centres,” he said.

He noted that Lokiriama had been among the sub-counties without theatre services, forcing patients to travel long distances for surgical care.

“As of today, services are accessible here at Namoruputh, and we expect the sub-county health index to improve. These services will also help reduce maternal and trauma-related complications,” added Dr. Kidalio.

He emphasized that development is closely tied to a healthy population, noting that improved health outcomes contribute to overall socio-economic growth.

Rev. Murray Cornelius lauded the partnership and expressed commitment to continued collaboration.

“We look forward to continued collaboration and partnerships. This is our way of giving back to this beautiful community,” he said.

Lokiriama Sub-County Medical Officer of Health, Lowoto Lokuruka, appreciated the new service, and requested for more staff to support the newly established theatre. He also called for acquisition of an ambulance to strengthen referral services across the sub-county.

Deputy Director for Medical Services, Dr. Ameyo Bonventure noted that the establishment of the theatre will significantly reduce referrals to Lodwar County and Referral Hospital among others.

“Filling the resource gaps, especially staffing for the theatre, will be prioritized,” he stated.

County Primary Healthcare Coordinator, Peter Ekope observed that Namoruputh Health Centre will now serve as the referral point for Lokiriama Sub-County, serving over 41,000 residents.

Present were Walter Ewoi, (Senior Facility Administrator, PAG facilities), Margaret Lokota (Deputy Director Nursing Services), Simon Echara (HRO at Health Department) Ekabonyo Paul (Sub-County Public Health Officer), area chiefs, and administrators.
