Chief Maraka, Ekwang’a hold meeting with project team after leadership changes

Days after taking office, County Project Coordinator, Michael Ekwanga, joined Chief Officer for Agriculture and Land Reclamation, David Maraka in a meeting with the Drought Resilience Programme of Northern Kenya (DRPNK) team to review ongoing programmes in Turkana.

Chief Maraka welcomed the new CPC to the team emphasizing the need for collaboration and a consultative approach on DRPNK projects.

He emphasized that all projects must be completed on time. CCO urged CPC Ekwanga to track progress and hold regular coordination meetings.

In his remarks, CPC asked the team to focus on service delivery and prioritize community interest first in every project decision.

“My role is to coordinate, supervise, and provide leadership through a whole-of -government approach to improve community livelihoods and reduce the impact of drought on people and livestock,” Ekwanga said.

CPC said the programme focuses on improving water access and management, protecting and diversifying livelihoods through climate-smart agriculture, fodder production, and livestock health. He said, he has a responsibility to listen, learn from you, and build on the strong foundation already in place.

Going forward, Ekwanga said priorities include creating conducive working environment, holding regular progress meetings, ensuring timely projects execution, and communicating results.

He promised to work closely with National Programme Coordinating Unit, Joint Programme Coordinating Unit, KfW, County programme Coordination Unit members, County Steering committees, implementation Support Consultancy(ISC) in line with existing departmental reporting structures.

The six-year project, ending in December 2027, is funded by KfW Bank and the Federal Republic of Germany, implemented by the National and County Governments of Turkana, aims to enhance drought resilience, improve agricultural productivity, and support livelihoods in Turkana.

DRPNK has started 38 projects across Turkana under AIP-1 and AIP-2, most are ongoing.

A reconnaissance survey of 116 projects is ongoing. Approval of AIP-3 projects is expected by June 2026.
