County Hands Over Sanyena–Pokotom Secondary School Road Project to Boost Access and Security in Kakuma Ward

Residents of Kakuma Sub-County are set to benefit from improved transport and connectivity following the official handover of the 2.3-kilometre Sanyena–Pokotom Secondary School Road project in Ng’atira Village, Kakuma Ward.

The project, funded through the Ward Development Fund at a cost of approximately KSh 4.8 million, was officially handed over to the contractor at Sanyena Junction in Turkana West.
Speaking during the handover ceremony,

County Senior Surveyor who is the Project Supervisor Janet Bosibori said the scope of works includes bush clearing, murram laying, and grading of the entire 2.3km road stretch to ensure safe and reliable access for residents.

“In addition to handing over the project to the contractor, we have used this opportunity to share the technical specifications and safety protocols that must be strictly adhered to during implementation,” said Janet.

Chairperson of the Kakuma Youth Association, Festus Macha, welcomed the project, noting that the improved road will ease movement for learners crossing to Pokotom Primary and Secondary Schools, as well as support livestock movement between Ng’atira Village and neighbouring areas.

The road is also expected to enhance access to nearby dispensaries and ECDE centres while serving as a strategic security access route to support rapid response by security agencies during raids and emergency situations.

Area MCA Hon. Eliud Emoni, alongside county and national government leaders from the area, also attended the handover event.
