Residents of Loima Ward are set to benefit from improved connectivity following the official handover of the Lorugum–Namoruputh road for routine maintenance works aimed at restoring the road to motorable standards.
The 28-kilometre road, funded through the Road Maintenance Levy Fund (RMLF) at a cost of KES 6.9 million, will involve grading and gravelling works to improve movement along the key rural road corridor.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, County Engineer in Charge Titus Tum directed the contractor to strictly adhere to the Bills of Quantity (BQ) and all contractual specifications to ensure delivery of durable and quality work.
“Strict compliance with the BQ and technical specifications is what guarantees quality infrastructure that serves the people effectively and delivers value for public resources,” said Eng. Tum.
He further urged the contractor to maintain cordial relations with the local community and ensure residents are treated with respect throughout the implementation period, noting that community cooperation remains critical to the successful execution and protection of the project.
Road Inspector David Ekuwam, who accompanied the Engineer during the handover, will oversee supervision of the works to ensure all standards and specifications are met.
Once completed, the upgraded road is expected to significantly ease movement of people, livestock, and goods between Lorugum and Namoruputh, while lowering transport costs and enhancing access to schools, health facilities, and markets across Loima Ward.
The project forms part of ongoing efforts by the county and national governments under the RMLF programme to strengthen rural road networks and open up productive areas that have long been constrained by poor road conditions across the county.
