Turkwel, 3rd June 2026 (Public Communication and Media Relations)
Construction works on the A1 Junction–Nameyana–Napeililim Road are set to commence following the official handover of the project site to the contractor by the Department of Roads.
The improvement of the more than 20-kilometre road is expected to significantly enhance mobility along the Turkwel corridor, opening up economic opportunities and strengthening social and commercial interactions among communities.
The handover ceremony was held at A1 Junction and brought together representatives from the County Government, technical officers, the contractor, local administration, and community leaders.
Planned works on the project include heavy bush clearing and heavy grading, aimed at improving accessibility, safety, and reliability along the corridor.
During the handover exercise, project engineers and survey officers identified and confirmed the project boundaries, while site markers were inspected to ensure compliance with project requirements. The contractor formally accepted the site and acknowledged the scope of work, technical specifications, and safety standards necessary for successful implementation.
Project Inspector Johnmark Eregae directed the contractor to mobilize equipment and personnel within seven days and to maintain close coordination with local leaders throughout the construction period. He emphasized the importance of timely communication and collaboration in addressing community concerns and ensuring smooth implementation of the project.
Once completed, the road is expected to ease movement of people and goods, improve access to essential services, and contribute to the socio-economic development of communities along the Turkwel corridor.
