County receives crucial life-saving health equipment and supplies in AMREF partnership

Lodwar – June 15, 2026 (Public Communication and Media Relations)

The Department of Health and Sanitation Services has today received a variety of Maternal and Neonatal Child Health (MNCH) equipment and life-saving health commodities from AMREF Health Africa’s Imarisha Jamii Project, underscoring the growing partnerships supporting service delivery in the county.

The consignment included five EPI fridges, a solar power system comprising a hybrid inverter, five monocrystalline solar panels and four deep-cycle batteries, ensuring reliable cold chain infrastructure for vaccine storage in health facilities.

This donation will help bridge existing health products and technologies gaps in MNCH, the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), and nutrition programmes.

The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health and Sanitation Services, Dr. Esekon Joseph Epem, highlighted the donation as a timely reinforcement of the county’s health infrastructure.

“This equipment will go a long way in strengthening our cold chain capacity and nutrition response, particularly for mothers and children in our most vulnerable communities,” the CECM said.

Anthony Asasio, Technical Lead for Maternal and Newborn Health at AMREF, echoed the sentiment, emphasising the organisation’s long-term commitment to the region.

“Through the Imarisha Jamii Project, we remain dedicated to building the capacity of health systems at the community level. This handover is a reflection of our belief that sustainable health outcomes are only possible when we invest in the right tools and supplies,” Asasio added.

The donation also included a range of nutrition supplies critical for combating malnutrition, among them 62 canisters of Therapeutic Milk F75, 600 packets of Therapeutic Milk F100, and Vitamin A supplements in varying dosages totalling 70 tins. Additional items included ten paediatric digital weighing scales, 400 MUAC tapes for both children and adults, and 5,000 Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation (IFAS) tablets — supplies that will directly support maternal and child health programmes across the county.

The Chief Officer for Preventive and Promotive Health, Agnes Mana, welcomed the donation, noting its alignment with the County Government’s public health priorities.

“Nutrition and immunisation remain at the heart of our preventive health agenda. These supplies will strengthen our ability to reach more children and mothers with life-saving interventions,” Mana said.

The fridges are to benefit the following target health facilities: Koyasa Dispensary (Kibish Sub-County), Kalelekol Dispensary (Lokiriama Sub-County), Lokipoto Dispensary (Turkana West), Lopur Dispensary (Aroo Sub-County), and Lomeleku Dispensary (Turkana South Sub-County).

Present were other senior officers from the County Health Management Team representing health products and technologies, EPI, and partnerships, led by Director of Family Health Gabriel Lopodo, among other representatives from AMREF Health Africa.
