Kapelibok Community, Mining Firm Hold Dialogue to Strengthen Partnership

The County Department of Mining today witnessed a public engagement meeting at Kapelibok Village in Kaputir Ward between local residents and Suleha Company Limited.

The meeting provided a platform for the community and the company to discuss their partnership, address concerns, and explore ways of enhancing cooperation for mutual benefit.

Speaking during the engagement, County Director of Mining Eloto Merimug emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue between mining companies and host communities. He noted that regular engagements promote transparency, mutual understanding, and sustainable development in mining areas.

County Director from the State Department of Mining, Job Onyanja, underscored the need for strong collaboration between investors and local communities, saying such forums help build trust, address emerging issues, and encourage responsible mining practices.

Suleha Company Limited Director Kulmiya Ali Mohamed reaffirmed the company’s commitment to working closely with the community and relevant stakeholders to ensure mining activities contribute positively to local socio-economic development.

Community members and company representatives also exchanged views on mining operations, community benefits, and peaceful coexistence, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining a positive working relationship.

The County Department of Mining reiterated its commitment to promoting responsible mining and ensuring community interests remain central to mining activities across Turkana County.

Others present included Inspector Christopher Onyango and Boniface Ekal Samal, Community Liaison Officer from the State Department of Mining.
