The County Government has validated the Water Services Development Cycle Plan, a key step toward strengthening water governance, enhancing drought preparedness, and unlocking sustainable financing for the water sector.
During the validation workshop, Charles Ekeno, Coordinator for the Horn of Africa Underground Water for Resilience Project, said the process was critical in ensuring the plan addresses local needs while aligning with county priorities.
“This validation confirms that the Water development cycle plan is practical, sustainable, and fully aligned with the county’s mandate. It strengthens decision-making and positions the county to better withstand drought shocks,” Ekeno noted.
Participants reviewed the plan to confirm its alignment with county priorities and assess its feasibility and long-term sustainability.
The validation also examined how the plan supports drought contingency planning, improves response effectiveness, and advances sustainable drought financing and resource mobilization within the water sector.
The workshop underscored the county’s commitment to strengthening water governance and reducing vulnerability to water shortages in arid and semi-arid areas.
Stakeholders emphasized the need for coordinated planning to ensure investments deliver reliable and sustainable water services to communities most affected by climate variability.
Aaron Nanok, Director of Agriculture, commended the collaborative approach and called on departments to implement the recommendations swiftly.
“A validated plan is only as strong as its implementation. We must now translate these commitments into action by mobilizing resources, integrating drought financing, and delivering resilient water services to our people,” Nanok said.
