Earlier today, the Turkana County Government, through Turkana Rural Water Services Company (TURWASCO), in collaboration with Feed the Children Kenya, officially launched and handed over two rural water supply projects to the communities of Loyoro and Napeget in Kangatotha Ward.
The projects, initiated by the County Government and upgraded with support from Feed the Children Kenya, included solarization of existing systems, installation of pipeline networks, construction of community water points and livestock troughs, and improvement of water storage facilities. These interventions are expected to significantly improve access to safe and reliable water for households and livestock.
TURWASCO Managing Director Ekaran Victorsam expressed confidence in the sustainability of the projects under the collaborative management model.
He emphasized that many water projects fail due to weak post-completion arrangements, noting that TURWASCO’s role will ensure long-term operation, maintenance, and reliable service delivery.
Feed the Children Kenya Country Director Jackone Otieno thanked the County Executive Committee Member responsible for Water, the county administration, and local leaders for their commitment and support in delivering the projects.
As part of the handover, TURWASCO was entrusted with leading the sustainability framework by providing technical support, operational management, and a community-centered service delivery model to ensure the systems continue serving the people of Loyoro and Napeget for years to come.
