The 40-kilometre road linking Sopel and Lotonguna in Turkana South was today assessed by a County Government roads inspection team.
According to Roads Inspector Ekuwam, who led the exercise, the inspection forms part of the ongoing assessment of projects supported by the County Government through the Road Maintenance Levy Fund (RMLF).
Inspector Ekuwam, who was accompanied by Engineer Emmanuel Amodoi, said the team evaluated the scope of works which includes light bush clearing and heavy grading to ensure the road remains passable throughout the year and meets required engineering standards.
“The purpose of this inspection is to verify progress on the ground and confirm that the contractor is adhering to specifications and timelines.,” Ekuwam said.
He added that the assessment had shown positive progress, expressing hope that the contractor would deliver the project as expected.
He further noted that the road, once complete, will improve transport, enhance security, support trade, and provide residents of Sopel, Katonguni, Lotonguna and neighboring villages with better access to schools, health facilities, and markets.
The assessment comes at a time when the County Government has stepped up improvement of the road network across Turkana through constriction of new roads and rehabilitation of existing ones.
