County commits to strengthening Community Health Services for improved primary healthcare

Loropio – July 31, 2026 (Public Communication and Media Relations)

The County Government has committed to strengthening Community Health Services (CHS) as a key pillar of primary healthcare and improving the delivery of health services.

This came during the Community Health Officers and Assistants Meeting held in Loropio, drawn from across the county to share experiences and identify practical approaches to improving community health outcomes.

County Executive Committee Member for Health and Sanitation Services, Dr. Joseph Epem, noted that CHS form the foundation of the county’s health system, generating critical data that informs planning, budgeting and decision-making.

Dr. Epem urged members to take a leading role in advocating for Social Health Authority (SHA) registration, noting that registration numbers influence the allocation of resources for primary healthcare services.

The CECM further disclosed that the Department is developing a mechanism to recognize and motivate facility units based on their contribution to SHA registration, with the aim of strengthening community-level health services.

He further assured county’s commitment to working closely with the UHC workforce, now fully integrated into the devolved health system, to improve coordination and service delivery.

The summit provided an opportunity for the officers to identify challenges affecting community health services, share experiences and strengthen collaboration towards better health outcomes.

The CECM appreciated the initiative and encouraged the summit to become an annual learning platform for reviewing progress while setting priorities for strengthening CHS across the county.

The CECM was accompanied by Agnes Mana (Chief Officer for Preventive and Promotive), and Directors; Dr. Joseph Lolepo (Community Health Services), James Lobokan (Monitoring and Evaluation), Maximillah Mana (County Community Health Focal Person), and Otieno Kagonya (CHESOA National Representative)
