The Department of Health and Sanitation, through the Directorate of Medical Services, has serviced 16 laboratory machines, reducing waiting time and ensuring high-quality test results for patients.
The equipment, 16 analysers (eight biochemistry and eight hematology machines) serviced by BioQuest (K) Limited, was located in Lokori, Elelea, Lokichar, Katilu, Kanamkemer, Lorugum, Lopiding, and Lokitaung sub-county hospitals. This servicing is a routine process necessary for all laboratory equipment, ensuring they operate efficiently.
“The equipment servicing translates to improved healthcare outcomes, as it enhances the quality of results, reduces turnaround time and ensures efficient accessibility at affordable costs,” said the Chief Officer for Medical Services, Dr Ezekiel Etelej.
He added that, through a sample referral network, the serviced analysers will benefit more clients visiting nearby health centers and dispensaries.
In addition, servicing reduces maintenance costs for the county, boosts workforce motivation, increases trust in test quality, and minimizes equipment breakdowns. This leads to greater utilisation of laboratory services in patient management.
The Chief Officer stated that lab services would be enhanced by ensuring the availability of properly maintained equipment, sufficient reagents, and well-trained lab officers, contributing to better patient outcomes.
According to the County Laboratory Coordinator, Alice Nataba, the servicing scope included software upgrades and calibration and basic training on daily equipment maintenance for lab officers.
“Doctors require fast and accurate lab test results for evidence-based diagnosis and patient management. This helps prevent costly misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatments,” said Dr Etelej.
