The county government, in collaboration with the National Land Commission (NLC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), have partnered to conduct an intensive land-use planning and survey exercise aimed at securing public land in Lodwar and Kakuma.

Speaking at a joint meeting to initiate the plan, Chief Officer for Lands and Physical Planning, Robert Loyelei, emphasized that the initiative will help protect public land from encroachment and land grabbing.

He noted that the exercise aligns with the Governor’s agenda on land acquisition and sustainable urban planning.

“This process is crucial in safeguarding public resources and ensuring that key facilities such as schools, showgrounds, stadiums, and government housing are well-documented,” he stated.

He added that proper records would help prevent future disputes and promote orderly urban development.

During his presentation, NLC Coordinator Mark Ewesit outlined the main objectives of the exercise, which include: Securing public land through structured land-use planning. Conducting surveys and demarcations to establish clear boundaries. Developing and updating a comprehensive public land inventory for Lodwar and Kakuma to support sustainable development.

The joint initiative seeks to ensure equitable land access, prevent informal settlements, and promote responsible use of government resources.

It is expected that the exercise will involve a team of surveyors and planners who will map and document existing infrastructure, resources, and land boundaries.

The collected data will serve as a foundation for informed decision-making and strategic urban planning.

Chief Loyelei urged land administrators to compile a comprehensive list of all public land parcels to facilitate effective planning and prevent irregular allocations.

Among those present were senior township officials, land adjudicators, assistant chiefs, county and national surveyors, planners, and representatives from the National Housing Department.
