In a bid to spur industrial growth and transform the County, Turkana has vowed to tap into its rich agricultural potential to create industries.
This was revealed by the Director of Agriculture, Aaron Nanok during a benchmarking tour of Uasin Gishu and Machakos to learn models of operating the County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPs)
Aaron Nanok explained that the CAIPs program is expected to enhance manufacturing and investment through agro-based industries, while also generating income, creating jobs, and expanding market access for local farmers.
“The main objective of CAIPs is to grow manufacturing and investments through agro-industries, equitably benefiting actors along the agricultural value chains,” said Nanok.
Director of Livestock Production, Bobi Ekadon, emphasized the need to integrate livestock and fish-based value chains into the initiative to boost economic productivity.
“Provision of infrastructure and facilities for agro-industrial investments will support the processing of animal and fish products, thereby increasing production for both local livelihoods and export,” said Ekadon.
The CAIPs initiative is expected to enhance the competitiveness of Kenya’s agriculture sector and promote sustainable rural development through value addition.
