COUNTY GOVERNMENT, KENYA RED CROSS SOCIETY DISCUSS THE UPCOMING AI- ENABLED SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM

Lodwar- April 22, 2025 (Public Communications and Media Relations)- The Department of Health and Sanitation hosted the Kenya Red Cross Society Surveillance Unit in a courtesy call to discuss the upcoming AI- Enabled Surveillance System.

The Community-Based Surveillance (CBS) feasibility Assessment will be carried out in Kalobeyei, Kakuma Municipality in Turkana West Sub-county.

Chairing the meeting, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, James Lobokan, emphasised that partners form an integral part of the department.

“We encourage partners to share plans that will advise how best the department can support them to improve quality of lives for our people,” he said.

Daniel Lagat, Head of Operations, Kalobeyei’s Refugee Operations at KRCS mentioned the objective of this assessment is to ensure the community health structures are ready before the actual role out and implementation.

Director Lobokan also added that he hopes this technology will be beneficial to the people of Turkana. He added that the department will be looking forward to the county inception meeting.

Yusuf Ajack, Ministry of Health- Division of Disease Surveillance and Response (DDSR) said, “In all pandemics and outbreaks, the healthcare workers get affected first, so having crucial information prior is important. We therefore take CBS seriously as part of the early warning systems and timely response.”

According to the KRCS team, the assessment findings will inform the system development, which is targeted for July, 2025.

Several members of the Senior Management Team from the Department of Health and Sanitation as well as other members of the KRCS team were present.
