The County Chief Officer for Preventive and Promotive, Janerose Tioko, delivered two refrigerators to the Riokomor community in Turkana North.
Chief Tioko stated that the county government had procured the refrigerators for vaccine storage to strengthen the Cold Chain System, ensuring timely vaccine availability for the community.
She also assessed ongoing health projects at Riokomor Health Facility to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services. She engaged the public during her visit, encouraging effective collaboration between the health facility, contractors, and the community regarding ongoing health infrastructure construction.
The Chief Officer added that the county would construct a perimeter fence around the facility to enhance safety for patients and secure medical supplies.
The Medical Officer of Health for Turkana North, Daniel Lokiriama, urged Community Health Promoters (CHPs) to reach remote communities to encourage health-seeking behaviour and improve healthcare access.
The Riokomor community has been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) due to 100% latrine usage for safe faecal waste disposal. Residents also practice healthy hygiene and sanitation routines.
The community expressed gratitude for the security measures and is committed to collaborating with the county while advocating for solutions to their challenges.
In attendance were Nominated Member of County Assembly Esther Apetet (Lakezone Ward), Chief Joseph Ekoyen (Lakezone Ward), Ward Administrator Gabriel Ebei (Lakezone Ward), Riokomor health workers, contractor Joseph Lokolio, and Simon Etelon (Engineer, Public Works).
