GOVERNOR LOMORUKAI DECLARES WAR ON LAND CARTELS AMID CALLS FOR UNITY IN TURKANA

Natoot Village, Lodwar, 26th April 2025 (Governor’s Press Service)—Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has issued a strong warning to land cartels operating within Lodwar Municipality, pledging decisive action to protect public land and uphold lawful acquisition processes.

He said this while attending the burial of late Councillor Philiph Eyanae Lobelu, whom he eulogised as a decorated Kenya Army veteran and revered community leader who had a legacy of service, courage, and deep commitment to his people.

Governor Lomorukai used the opportunity to issue a stern warning to land cartels. “The era of land grabbing in Lodwar Municipality is over. Anyone involved in illegal land deals will face the full force of the law. Land acquisition in Turkana follows a clear, lawful process, and it must be respected by all,” he offered.

He dismissed claims that the County Government sponsored recent demonstrations in Loima Constituency, stating that the people of Loima have the right to query how their resources are being used.

The Governor also criticised certain leaders as being disingenuous in reconciliation efforts and reiterated his commitment to genuine unity, not political expediency. Former Senate Speaker Ekwee Ethuro Reminisced on the old style of politics, appreciating its evolution to the current harmonious style. He, however, expressed concern over divisive politics.

Turkana Senator James Lomenen called on Turkana leadership to prioritise unity over division. Women Representative Cecil Ishuu pledged support for the widows of former servicemen and urged political aspirants to respect existing structures.

Turkana Central MP Emathe Namuar expressed concern over sectarian politics dividing Turkana leaders. He also called on residents of Natoot and Napuu villages to take advantage of the power lines within the area and connect their homes.

Kanamkemer Ward MCA James Ikeny backed Namuar in urging residents of Napuu and Natoot villages to connect their households to electricity. Kang’atotha Ward MCA Mathew Lonyait stated that the County Assembly has a very good working relationship with the County Executive.

Other Members of the County Assembly present were Ruth Kuya (Lodwar Township), Mark Amojong (Loima), Linet Abok (Nominated), Mary Arupe (Nominated), and Patrick Losiru (Nominated).

Senior County Government officials accompanying the Governor included Leah Lokaala (CECM for Tourism), County Chief Officers Peter Lomorukai (Municipality), Ezekiel Etelej (Medical Services), Janerose Tioko (Preventive and Promotive), Evans Lomodei (Fisheries), Chief of Staff Peter Loyapan and a host of County Directors.
