The County Government of Turkana has been awarded as the third best nationally for its outstanding implementation of the 2020/2025 Emergency Locust Response Project (ELRP). This is a World Bank-funded initiative.

The award was presented to James Wangiros, the County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, Livestock Production, and Fisheries, during a closure ceremony held by the World Bank Group.

The ceremony focused on evaluating the project’s impact, gathering feedback, and acknowledging the efforts made in various counties. Turkana County was specifically recognized for its successful execution of key project components such as the completion of subprojects, capacity-building training for vulnerable groups, funding for savings and credit cooperatives (SACCOs), and the establishment of farmer producer organizations.

In his remarks, CECM Wangiros highlighted the positive effects the ELRP has had on the residents of Turkana.

He also commended the project team, led by Victor Lochee, Assistant Director for Agriculture and Coordinator of the Emergency Locust Response Project/Food Systems Resilience Program, for their dedication to advancing Governor Jeremiah Lomurkai’s development agenda.

The ceremony also served as a platform to appreciate the feedback from various counties regarding the project’s implementation.

This recognition underscores Turkana County’s commitment to addressing agricultural challenges and enhancing food security in the region.
