Gidhash Company Limited has expressed interest in establishing a mining site in Kaputir, Aroo Sub-County, following a courtesy visit to the County Department of Natural Resources, Mining, Energy and Climate Change.
The investor sought guidance on compliance and regulatory procedures, as the company prepared to begin operations in the area. Discussions centred on preventing unregulated mining, which poses risks to both environmental sustainability and community safety.
County Executive for Natural Resources, Mining, Energy and Climate Change, Leah Audan Lokaala, emphasized the need for adherence to legal frameworks to ensure that mining activities benefit local communities.
“We must focus on public participation, land rights, and environmental protection, ensuring that the community shares in the benefits of mining operations,” said Lokaala.
She also noted a worrying increase in unauthorized mineral extraction, highlighting the county’s resolve to address the issue proactively.
Director of Mining, Nickson Merimug Eloto, reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to responsible mining.
“We will conduct a site visit to evaluate the situation on the ground and ensure the company complies with all regulations,” said Merimug.
Aroo Sub-County Administrator Alfred Lomodei welcomed the investors and reiterated the local administration’s role in monitoring and regulating mining activities.
“We are committed to ensuring investors honour their Corporate Social Responsibility commitments,” he said.
The lead of the investor team, Yusuf Osman, acknowledged the regulatory requirements and assured the department that the company is finalizing all prerequisites for lawful operation.
“We have been formally identified in the area and are committed to fulfilling our obligations to the local community,” he said.
The meeting was also attended by county administrators from Kaputir.
