COUNTY GOVERNMENT TO STRENGTHEN PEACE BUILDING PROGRAMMES – GOVERNOR LOMORUKAI

Lorus , 22nd July 2025 (Governor’s Press Service)- Governor Lomorukai has affirmed that the County Government remains committed to promoting peace in conflict-prone areas between the Turkana people and their neighbors.

Speaking today in Lorus, Governor Lomorukai highlighted County Government led peacebuilding and conflict resolution efforts, including cross-border meetings with leaders from neighboring countries.

He described the peace meetings as instrumental toward securing lasting peace for the benefit of Ateker communities.

Governor Lomorukai who is on working tour of Turkana West Constituency outlined his development agenda, noting that improving access to clean water is a top priority for his administration.

“I want to assure you that I am fully committed to implementing our development goals, particularly in the areas of water and livestock development. My administration is steadfast in its efforts to safeguard the interests of our people, who are predominantly pastoralists,” he said.

He cited his intervention to secure the release of pastoralists who had been detained in Uganda as part of his administration’s dedication to ensuring that herders can move freely and access essential resources such as water and pasture.

Governor Lomorukai emphasized the importance of servant leadership and cautioned residents to be wary of leaders driven by personal interests rather than the common good of Turkana County.

Turkana West MCAs led by Minority Leader Vincent Ekipor lauded Governor Lomorukai’s administration for spearheading peace building and conflict management activities in the region.

Senior County Government officials accompanying the Governor included County Secretary Dr Richard Ekai as well as County Executives Antony Apalia (Climate Change and Natural Resources), Wiljustus Lopeyok (Water Services), Patrick Losike (Public Service) and Faith Aletea (Lands).
