Private Sector players in the energy industry have identified Kalokol as a promising site for upcoming projects aimed at improving access to clean and sustainable energy solutions.

At a consultative meeting with the County Chief Officer for Energy and Petroleum, Triza Amoni, the stakeholders noted that the rapid growth of fisheries in the area, called for affordable but reliable energy solutions to power the emerging fish processing infrastructure.

While reiterating County’s commitment to expanding energy access in Urban centers, Chief Officer Triza Amoni called on the private sector players to consider partnerships with county in unlocking the potential of Kalokol and all other towns across the County.

“The County welcomes collaborations that bring impact. We are open to proposals to establish mini-grids at Kalokol. This will support urban growth, industrialization, and avail power for domestic consumption in the area,” she said.

Kalokol sits on the shores of Lake Turkana and serves as an important fisheries hub in the region and serving Kenyan, Ugandan, Tanzanian, and Congolese markets.

The dialogue also explored opportunities for tapping into solar energy to expand energy access to the underserved populations.

Peter Yoromoe (Project coordinator KISDEP), Vitalis Ogembo (Office of the Governor), and Engineer Jackson Lojore (Director Energy) also participated in the meeting.
