County, DCA Partners in Talks to Boost Cross-Border Peace and Resilience

The County Government has welcomed deeper collaboration with DanChurchAid (DCA) and partners implementing the EU-funded SPREAD Project, which promotes peace, resilience, and disaster risk reduction in border communities.

Chief Officer for the Office of the Governor Moses Korea hosted the delegation led by Ms. Tina Breum Mariegaard, Head of Global Partnerships and Resource Mobilisation at DCA’s Global Office in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The meeting discussed ways to strengthen joint efforts in supporting communities affected by conflict and climate change in Turkana and across the Karamoja Cluster.

Breum said the SPREAD Project seeks to enhance peacebuilding, disaster preparedness, and resilience by working closely with local governments and communities to ensure lasting impact.

Chief Officer Korea commended DCA and its partners for their ongoing peace work, noting that cross-border collaboration among Turkana and neighboring communities had improved trade, movement, and access to shared resources.

“We have seen real progress in cross-border peace. Communities are now trading and sharing grazing resources more freely. This shows that peacebuilding efforts are bearing fruit,” he said.

He reaffirmed Governor Dr. Jeremiah Lomorukai’s support for partners working in Turkana and called for stronger coordination among stakeholders to achieve greater impact.

“Governor Lomorukai believes peace is central to resilience. We will continue to work together through a multisectoral approach, especially as climate change increasingly affects grazing lands and livelihoods,” he added.

Korea thanked DanChurchAid and local partner TUPADO for their continued support, assuring them of the County Government’s commitment to sustaining peace and resilience efforts.

The delegation included Richard Onyancha (SPREAD Consortium Manager, DCA Kenya), Irene Kibon (Programme Coordinator, DCA Kenya), and Dr. David Kang’ole (Head of Programmes, TUPADO Kenya).

County Director for Peace Titus Lokorkeju was among senior County officials also present in the meeting.
